Kilikanoon Medley 2005
A classic 'rhone' styled blend made traditionally from fully mature Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro grapes from selected vineyards in the Barossa and Clare Valleys. Starting Seamlessly constructed and perfectly matched, the Medley is ideally featured as a food wine where the gentle tannins and earthy fruit flavours complement yet don't dominate the senses. Typically fruit from older vineyards and a real 'hands on' approach to the winemaking process has been the driving force behind the Medley style. This passion for what was old but now is new again features strongly in this wine. Wine Advocate The 2005 GSM “Medley” is composed of 50% Grenache, 40% Shiraz, and 10% Mataro and was aged for 24 months in seasoned French and American hogsheads. It delivers an expressive aromatic array of cedar, pencil lead, forest floor, truffle, black cherry, and blueberry. This leads to a mouth-filling, spicy wine with gobs of red and black fruits and a hint of chocolate. There are some ripe tannins which will allow the wine to evolve for several years and drink well for a decade. Score: 91. —Jay Miller, October 2007. |
